About me
My name is Aleksandra Bauld, I am a psychologist and psychotherapist.
In my work I help people to understand themselves better. During psychotherapy both the patient and I try to discover the reasons for the unhappiness, grief, anxiety, rage and other feelings that dominate their life. We analyse the main problems by examining the patient’s past and linking their previous experiences to their present life. I listen to the patient’s thoughts, share my observations and support the person in facing the issues which have been hidden in their unconscious. The aim of this is to resolve what is painful, give it a new meaning and free the person from the burden it brought.
I employ a psychoanalytical approach in my sessions with individual adults and am able to offer counsel in both Polish and English languages.
Education
I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Warsaw University in 2005 and furthered my skills and knowledge by attending a 5-year comprehensive course in psychotherapy (psychodynamic and systemic approach) at the Institute of Family Therapy, Department of Psychiatry, Jagiellonian University in Cracow.
I am a member of The Polish Association of Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy. I regularly attend conferences, seminaries and supervisions.
Experience
Previously I worked in the “Integra” Psychotherapy Centre in Warsaw and in the Rehabilitation Ward of The Drewnica Hospital for Neurotics and Psychotics in Ząbki for several years. I also worked for the Communal Commission of Resolving Alcoholic Problems (Gminna Komisja do spraw Rozwiązywania Problemów Alkoholowych) in Ząbki. I had internships at the Crisis Intervention Centre “Adamus” (Ośrodek Interwencji Kryzysowej “Adamus”) in Warsaw/Pyry, the psychiatric ward of Bielański Hospital and in the psychiatric hospital in Łuków. Currently, I run my own psychotherapy practice in Podkowa Leśna and I also cooperate with the “Psyche Plus” Psychotherapy and Psychiatry Centre in Warsaw/ Mokotów.
What does a psychotherapy session look like?
The main tool in psychotherapy is conversation. It is the patient who decides what they want to talk about and the therapist follows with her mindfulness. Sometimes the subjects refer to the past, and sometimes to their present life. The patient is encouraged to speak freely about everything that comes to their mind and every feeling they experience, no matter how insignificant. The therapist helps the person to see the content hidden behind their words and emotions. That makes them conscious of it and frees them from its influence. Important issues that are discovered during psychotherapy sessions translate into the patient’s everyday life and improve it by making it more conscious and understandable.
How does psychotherapy start?
The therapy is preceded by 1-3 consultation sessions. These consultation sessions are an opportunity for the patient to describe the problems they have, the changes they would like to make, and the goals they would like to achieve. It is also the time to discuss formal issues, like payments, cancelling sessions, holiday breaks etc. These sessions are also a chance for the patient to meet me and see how I work. Choosing a therapist is a very private decision and those first few consultations should make that decision easier.
You can arrange the first consultation by phone or e-mail – contact details below.
What does psychotherapy help with?
People decide to start psychotherapy for many different reasons, usually when they are unhappy, frustrated or overwhelmed and want to change this. Correctly, they hope psychotherapy will bring relief and provide them with skills that will help with future problems.
Difficulties in close relationships, low self-esteem, desolation, mood irregularities, insomnia, somatic symptoms of unknown origin, phobias, panic attacks and much more are reasons to consider psychotherapy. This kind of help might also be needed in crisis situations, like serious illness, death of a loved one, moving to another country etc. Everything associated with inner pain can become a reason to seek psychotherapeutic help. It is also a great way to boost one’s personal growth and self-awareness.
